Hematology Oncology Clinic Addressing the Financial Concerns of Cancer Treatment

Over $8 Million Provided in Patient Assistance

Baton Rouge, La., September 15, 2020Hematology/Oncology Clinic (HOC), a partner practice of American Oncology Network, LLC (AON), is helping ease the financial burden of cancer treatment for their patients.

“Stress can have an adverse effect on a patient’s cancer treatment and it can even weaken the immune system, increase bone pain and exacerbate fatigue,” said Medical Oncologist Dr. Gerald Miletello. “The reality is treatments can prove costly and cause enormous stress for patients and our goal is to help ease that financial strain.”

HOC has financial counselors to help guide patients through various grants, copays and assistance programs.  This dedicated staff also works closely with the pharmaceutical companies to supply medications at no cost to patients that meet financial aid criteria.

Dr. Miletello said, “Another financial benefit to our patients is that our practice is community-based which can provide treatment costs up to 40% lower than hospital-based providers.”

HOC’s network partnership with AON allows for better pricing power so they are able to extend lower medication rates and savings to patients.  Just in the last 18 months, HOC secured over $8 million, with $6 million from grants, totaling $8.2 million in financial aid to patients.
